Centerbrook to Present at NEMA Conference Nov. 6

Principal Mark Simon, FAIA and Associate Principal Justin Hedde, AIA will represent Centerbrook Architects & Planners at this year’s New England Museum Association Annual Conference and discuss the firm’s ongoing Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History renewal.

Simon and Hedde will be joined in the discussion by David Skelly, director of the Peabody Museum. The session is titled “Setting and Achieving Goals for the Yale Peabody Museum,” and will take place in the Doubletree by Hilton in Burlington, Vt., on Wednesday, Nov. 6 at 8:45 a.m.

Session Description:

Making goals for a museum redesign is hard, but sticking to them throughout the process is even harder. With construction starting in 2020, the Yale Peabody Museum is embarking on a new era, one that increases student engagement and collections-based teaching. From addressing K through 12 logistics to meeting sustainability objectives, the director and lead architect will address how a design reaches everyone.

Centerbrook has designed a multi-year renovation and expansion of the Peabody Museum. The project continues to move forward with all municipal approvals in place. Demolition and construction is anticipated to commence next spring.

Also on the agenda for the 2019 NEMA Conference is a pre-conference tour of the Centerbrook-designed Sullivan Museum & History Center on the campus of Norwich University in Northfield, Vt. The museum, which opened in 2006, chronicles two centuries of history from the nation’s first private military university. The tour scheduled for Nov. 5 at 12:30 p.m.
