Santaniello to Speak at CTGBC Event

June 13th, 2016

Andrew Santaniello, AIA will represent Centerbrook Architects and Planners as a speaker at next week’s Connecticut Green Building Council program.

Santaniello, a Centerbrook Associate, is one of four speakers on the panel who will present an overview of the newly updated Whole Building Performance approach of the Energy Conscious Blueprint program from Energize CT.

The event will take place on June 13 at Energize CT in North Haven, Connecticut.

Santaniello gained knowledge of the Whole Building Performance approach through his design work for the Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine that opened in 2014 on the UConn Health Campus in Farmington, Connecticut. He subsequently presented on the topic “Maximizing Utility Rebates for Greener Labs” at the International Institute for Sustainable Laboratories Annual Conference, where Jackson Laboratory was used as a case study.

“I have an interest in understanding how to integrate the energy modeling and utility incentive process into all projects, but also learning how owners can benefit with respect to payback,” Santaniello said.

The CTGBC presentation will include information on available incentives for design and efficiency measures, new modeling guidelines that answer questions and list common issues that have slowed incentive review, a new standard model submission template and introduction of a new energy modeling partner list.

“We will exhibit how utilizing the energy model can save costs for owners by allowing the incentive process to assist in achieving their sustainable goals,” Santaniello said. “In the case of Jackson Laboratory, the money saved was reinvested into the lab in the form of scientific equipment and they capitalized on incentives to invest in advanced building management controls.”

Santaniello will present along with James Beatrice from Eversource to a group that is expected to include architects, engineers, owners and other interested individuals. Santaniello and Beatrice will be joined on the presentation docket by Michael Karpman of Karpman Consulting and United Illuminating’s Glen Eigo.
