Centerbrook was selected in 2006 by the Collegiate School, a top-tier Richmond, Virginia, independent school, to design a new dining hall and library buildings. Using workshops with the school community, Centerbrook updated a master plan proposal by Richmond-based Blanchard Associates for two separate buildings, incorporating them into a single large structure. The Dining and Academic Commons' approximately 77,000 gross square feet was designed to house the Upper School library, an Upper School dining facility, a central kitchen, offices for the head of school, and a central plant. The library would contain informal lounges, group study spaces, a media lab, a writing center; stacks for the school's 25,000 volumes, offices, classrooms, and support spaces.
