Centerbrook is designing a new social heart for Miss Porter’s School, a private girls school located in a historic neighborhood in Farmington, Connecticut. Slated for LEED Gold certification, the building is sustainably designed to collaborate with its intimate campus and landscape. The 22,700-square-foot facility will consolidate student life functions with a dining hall, kitchen, and servery; a commons encircled with student lounges; the school’s Daisy Café; the mail room; a quiet room with fireplace; and administrative offices. All spaces are multi-purpose; for instance, the dining room has alcoves that serve as both lounges and overflow seating space for school-wide meals. As the campus’s new front door, it will welcome day students and visitors at the street, leading them through to enter campus across the beloved Brooks Field, used for graduation and other ceremonies.
