Cynthia Kinlock

Wide-eyed and fearless, a young Cynthia dreamt of leaving her small Bridgeport apartment for the bright lights of New York City. From the rush of the Big Apple to the charm of Parisian terrasses, Cynthia has always had a fascination for cities and the architecture that defines them. They have instilled a curiosity that, along with keen attention to detail and an irresistible effervescence, Cynthia brings to Centerbrook.

Cynthia is a writer inspired by concise and accurate expression, seeing beauty in succinct, declarative prose. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a concentration in professional writing from Southern Connecticut State University. While at Southern, she authored a short story chronicling her childhood, entitled Sweet Sour, that received the SCSU Folio Award.

Before joining Centerbrook in May 2021, Cynthia began her career as a digital media intern at C&G Media group – publishers of Cottages and Gardens Magazine. Her stint there was followed by two years at QA+M Architecture, where she honed her writing, graphic design, and technical experience in the AEC industry.

Cynthia has developed a penchant for working with architects, using her clarity of thought and search for intention to understand space and placemaking. As the firm’s storyteller, Cynthia strives to capture the essence of design and translate it to architects and non-architects alike.

  • Cynthia has served as both Director and Secretary on the SMPS Connecticut Board. She volunteers on its Communications Committee and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Taskforce, and was recognized with the 2020 Trailblazer Award.
  • A booklover and avid reader, Cynthia names Milan Kundera, Toni Morrison, and Patti Smith among her favorite authors.
  • Marketer by day and “salsera” by night, Cynthia enjoys salsa dancing as a form of exercise, community, and connection to her Puerto Rican roots.
