Centerbrook’s Slapstick Table Wins Award

CENTERBROOK, Conn. -- The Slapstick Table, designed by Centerbrook partner Mark Simon with colleagues Edward Keagle and Peter Cornell, has won a 2009 Good Design Award given out by The Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design together with The European Centre for Architecture Art design and Urban Studies.

Founded in 1950 by architect Eero Saarinen, among others, Good Design bestows international recognition on the world’s most prominent designers and manufacturers for “advancing new, visionary, and innovative product concepts, invention and originality, and for stretching the envelope beyond what it considered basic product and consumer design.”

A modern take on a classic farm table, the four-by-eight foot Slapstick Table features an eccentric crisscrossing leg design and is made from solid Appalachian black cherry. The table and an accompanying Centerbrook bench are available from Curran of Seattle, Washington. Previously, the table had won a silver medal in the 2008 Design Excellence Awards.
