Community Commons
Located on a suburban 33-acre campus, Kingswood Oxford is a private co-educational day school serving students in grades 6-12. Centerbrook reimagined its existing dining hall and library as a new Community Commons that serves as a vibrant hub for social and intellectual engagement for all members of the school.
Kingswood Oxford
A prominent new entry welcomes the community into a double-height living room with comfortable furniture and walls warmed with wood paneling. Two well-used glass study rooms lead to a lounge that serves — flanked by an expanded dining hall to one side, and a library and media center on the other — as a nucleus of activity. Its coffered ceiling features cove lighting and acoustic panels fashioned with the school’s mascot, the Wyvern, in the negative space.
The library features a technologically advanced, media-rich research center, a reading room with a fireplace, a flexible presentation space, a state-of-the-art library classroom, and smaller collaborative and individual study areas. The glassy walls of the expanded dining hall welcome views of the campus while a new servery efficiently manages the flow of students during peak times. The patio provides an enhanced outdoor space for entertaining, dining, and student use.
